Leica Builder Total Station for WorldSkills Competition

Harry Turner of Askham Bryan College in York was keen to improve on his team’s fifth place position in last year’s WorldSkills Competition and thus approached York Survey Supply Centre - the leading local supplier of high quality surveying equipment and accessories - for advice.
The WorldSkills Competition involves over 1000 competitors from 51 countries in 45 skill categories, one of which is Landscape Gardening.
Harry said, "Sometimes you need to think outside the box - we really needed that special extra something to give us the edge this year... and York Survey delivered!"
Following a site visit and consultation with the team to ascertain their needs, York Survey’s Technical Advisor, Bob Wells was able to recommend and demonstrate a Leica Builder Total Station. "Although only the ‘entry level’ instrument in the Builder series, the R100M is packed with features for both surveying and setting out and offers reflectorless ranges of up to 80 metres," said Bob, "This instrument is ideally suited to the team’s task as it offers a highly cost-effective, yet accurate way of setting out the area to be used and also checking their completed work to the judges’ tolerances. It is much better than their current method of ‘tapes and spirit levels’."
Harry added, "We see ourselves as landscape gardeners, not surveyors, but in a world class contest like this you really do need to be a master of all trades!"
York Survey Supply Centre can offer advice and technical support on equipment from simple hand held measures to top of the range total stations.
It’s now down to the team to perform well at the contest this 1st-7th September in Calgary, Canada and bring the trophy home - York Survey will certainly be throwing their support behind the boys from Askham Bryan!
